The Sichuan earthquake in 2008 devastated a vast area of land including Wenchuan, Beichuan and Mianyang.  Uncountable homes were ruined and a lot of children lost their families.  This disaster, aroused concern from people all around the world.  Moved by the need, Gratia Foundation and CCHC established the third children home especially for the affected children.  It is located at Zitong County, Mianyang City.  The project commenced in September 2008.  There were a number of incidents that caused at least five months delays on the project.  The children home finally completed and admitted the first batch of children in August 2010, all these were possible because of the sincere support from Mianyang government authority.  The opening ceremony was held on 8 January 2011. In 2026, Children’s Home has been in service for 16 years, caring for nearly 150 children in need and nurturing their holistic development - body, mind, social, and spiritual. With the support of sponsors like you, more than 40 children have been able to pursue higher education at colleges or universities. Many of the first group of children have now started families of their own, living independently and steadily contributing to society. These life transformations have only been possible because of your love and support throughout the years.

In recent years, the local government has set up a new welfare institution providing residential services for children. Starting from September 2026, children in need will be admitted to this government facility instead of being referred to the Sichuan Children’s Home. After careful evaluation and consideration, the Sichuan Children’s Home will officially cease operations in September 2026.
